Also known as Indian Almond Catappa leaves, these leaves are essential for any aquarium!

Catappa leaves release tannins, calcium, and humic acid. These properties are known for having antibacterial, antifungal, and stress-reducing properties, and have been shown to support the breeding and growth of shrimp colonies, as well as other invertebrates and shy fish. Adding these leaves to your aquarium gives fry and other bottom-dwellers like pygmy corydoras places to hide. As the leaves soak, microorganisms break down the leaf while reproducing and forming a layer of biofilm and infusoria. This microfauna is an ideal food source for small fry and shrimp because it is often the only thing tiny enough for them to consume in early life.

Leaf size ranges from 4 to 7 inches, keep in mind these are natural leaves from a tree so size and shape may vary.

To reap the benefits of these magic leaves, start with 1 Catappa leaf for every 10-20 gallons. The leaf should float in the aquarium for about 24 hours and then sink as it begins to release all its goodness!

If you don’t like the way the leaves look in your tank, you can make a "tea" by boiling one leaf for every 0.5 gallon of water. Once the liquid has cooled, pour a little into the tank until you reach the color you want.
