The Achilles Tang or Red-Tailed Surgeon is considered one of the most beautiful fish in the Tang family. It was originally found in the waters of Hawaii. The Achilles Tang can reach about 9.4 inches in length. In the wild The Achilles Tang eats Gracilaria, a type of red algae in the wild. Although in captivity it will eat Nori, a type of Japanese seaweed commonly used in sushi. In the wild they will live 2-4 years, but in captivity have only been known to live for 2 1/2 years. This fish is very difficult to care for in captivity as requiring a minimum of a 200 gallon aquarium and extensive care.
