Distributed in southern Japan at depths below 200 meters. Also caught at depths near 300 meters in Okinawa. Its whole body has a beautiful red color or pink color with a deeply forked tail fin that grows as it matures. They are known to be one of the three fish delicacies of Okinawa, and are prepared and served as sashimi. They are also very difficult to rear, however the Churaumi Aquarium was the first to succeed in long term rearing.
