  • Rareness:★★★★★

Distributed across the Red Sea and the Indo-Pacific. In Japan, around Iheya Island and the Yaeyama Islands.  They inhabit the coasts, and juveniles are at times caught in inner reefs by fisherman. Most species of requiem sharks (Carcharhinidae family), have large first dorsal fins compared to the second dorsal fin, however sicklefin lemon sharks have first and second dorsal fins of similar size. They are named after their lemon-color body. However, the lemon color may fade depending on conditions so it is not a reliable way to identify the shark.  It follows preys caught in cages and is disliked by diving fisherman.

Scientific name Negaprion acutidens
English name Sicklefin lemon shark
