It originates from Madascasgar but has gained a presence in many other countries including Nigeria, where it is locally known as Odaa Opuo (Igbo) and Abamoda (Yoruba).

One characteristic of this plant is that it truly answers to its name.

“Odaa Opuo” means, “fall and germinate”. That means that once a leaf fall onto the soil, it sprouts into a new plant within 12 hours.
