September 23, 2020 - Polynesian Storm-Petrel (Nesofregetta fuliginosa)

Found in the tropical Pacific Ocean, these storm-petrels probably breed on the Phoenix, Line, Austral, Society, Gambier, Marquesas, Sala y Gomez, and Banks Islands and in New Caledonia and previously bred on several other nearby islands. They eat crustaceans, cephalopods, small fish, and marine insects. Breeding in loose colonies, they build their nests in burrows, rock crevices, or tussocks, where females lay a single egg. Classified as Endangered by the IUCN, they are at risk from invasive predators, particularly rats and cats, on their breeding islands.
