Blacktip Reef Shark

Carcharhinus melanopterus

Both dorsal, anal, pectoral fins and lower caudal fin lobe are black tipped.

Size : 180 cm

Habitat : In lagoons and outreers, 0-75 m. Juveniles often in shallow water on reef roofs. Alone or in groups. Feeds on reef fish and squid. Shy.

Distribution : Red Sea and East Africa to S Japan, Hawaii and Pitcairn. Encroached into the Mediterranean (Tunisia, Israel) by way of the Suez Canal.
