White-edged Lyretail

Variola albimarginata

Caudal fin is sickle-shaped with back edge. Juveniles are pale red with bright backs. The caudal fin is not yet sickle-shaped and is half transparent at the rear.

Size : 55 cm

Habitat : Inhabits lagoons, coastal and out reefs, 5-90 m. Less common than the Coral Grouper. Likewise swims openly just above the reef during the day.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan, Mariana Islands, GBR and Samoa.
