Wolf Cardinalfish

Cheilodipterus artus

Eight horizontal stripes, yellow tail spot with black dot. Specimens also commonly have darker basic coloration and black or sooty tail stalk. Adult are probably capable of rapid color changes.

Size : 12 cm

Habitat : Inhabits protected bays, patch reefs and lagoons, 3-20 m. Usually in small loose groups in front of cavities and coral outcrops, frequently in front of branch coral. Feeds on small fish.

Distribution : East Africa to SW Japan and French Polynesia.
