This Acan echinata was acquired by KLR/Kelby in February 2011 when he purchased the coral from an online vendor who stated it was exported from Indonesia. Kelby called this coral the time warp based on the pigment patterns developed within the corallites. These patterns are similar to typical time warp portals. The orange rim develops extensively along new growth edges that have healed and are growing at moderate rates. Kelby believes the corals prefer moderate light and moderate current.
Steve Tyree is maintaining a seed section of this coral for Reeffarmers.com in a 130 gallon Raceway Gyre BiZonal system. This system is naturally filtered with a semi-cryptic zone and a reef flat exposed zone. In Steve's captive reef the coral is positioned to receive moderate light levels from a 400 watt 20,000 K Radium metal halide. The first edition fragment of this coral was sold as a Buy It Now. Introductory price was $80 for the small single large corallite first edition fragment imaged below.
