General Information

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Indonesia - Tuamotu; Hawai‘i; n. to s.Japan

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Marine, near-shore, benthic

KEY FEATURES: Large, to 18cm Total Diameter. Disc 20mm, arms 3-4x disc diam. (to 80mm). A black brittle-star with medium length arms with spines longer than arm diameter. Dorsally black with fine dull yellow radial-lines, with a few yellow spots on outer edge. Oral surface mainly yellow, and sides of arms also yellow. Covered in fine granules. Arm segments with 6 spines at base, then 5, then 4.
