COMMON NAMES: Bracelet Prawn, Monkey River Prawn; French Bouqet Singe

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE e.Africa - Tuamotu/Marquesas; n. to Ryukyu; EXOTIC EXOTIC Hawai‘i (1956)

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Freshwater, streams - ponds, breed in stream mouth

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Food

KEY FEATURES: Large prawn, to 10cmBL; 25cmTL (incl. arms). HEAD-THORAX sides brown, topside dark brown; rostrum large with ~8 top teeth. ABDOMEN brown, with darker dorsal stripe. WALKING LEGS brown. MALE ARMS (2nd cheliped) outer segments dark brown with a contrasting white bracelet at base of the black fingers.
