General Information

COMMON NAMES: Pink Trumpet Vine, Port St.John Creeper

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE S.Africa

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Introduced - Recent, Not naturalised; S.Group (RR only - rare); Land, lowlands, gardens

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: Ornamental flowers

KEY FEATURES: Climbing shrub. LEAVES opposite, compound; LEAFLETS 2-5 pairs plus 1 terminal, oval, to 7cm, without teeth. FLOWERS terminal cluster, funnel-like with 5 round petals, 7cmØ, pink with red stripes, throat without hairs; calyx inflated.

SIMILAR SPECIES: Bower Plant (Pandorea jasminoides) has calyx narrow (vs inflated), flower-tube white (vs. pink), and throat without dark stripes (vs. red stripes). [Not presently recorded in Cook Islands.]
