COMMON NAMES: Lindernia

TRADITIONAL NAMES: Tūtae Tōrea (RR MG AT MK MT AK)

GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION: NATIVE Africa - Asia - Fiji - French Polynesia

COOK ISLANDS STATUS: Native; Land, lowlands - valleys, wetlands

SIGNIFICANCE LIST: ; Locally endangeredMedicine

KEY FEATURES: Small prostrate or erect herb to 15cm. STEM 4-angled. LEAVES opposite, adjacent pairs at right angles, wide oval widest towards base, to 20x10mm, tip sharp, base rounded; stalk 1mm. FLOWERS in axils, stalk 10-15mm, solitary; purple and white tube, compressed towards the end, with two lower petals and one upper petal (somewhat like a shovelnosed lobster). FRUIT ovoid, 4mm long.
