leaflets elliptic, base acute, margin entire, apex acute; inflorescence
a spike-like spathe enclosed in a close-fitting spathe (bract),
staminate flowers above, pistillate flowers below, the two separated
by a constriction in the spathe; flowers minute; fruiting spadices
orange.
